The Tedee Smart Turn is ideal for any door that uses a Euro cylinder to operate the lock.

Externally, the 3-star kitemarked Euro cylinder keyway remains intact, ensuring full external protection. This lock should not affect your insurance policy, although it’s advisable to check individual policies for confirmation.

Most commonly used on UPVC or composite doors, the Tedee Smart Turn attaches to the back of the Euro cylinder, allowing you to keep the existing handle and simply replace the Euro cylinder (which requires at least 3mm protrusion from the handle).

This smart lock features an impressively powerful motor. In tests comparing it to other smart locks, the Tedee Smart Turn was not only the smallest but also had the strongest motor, capable of unlocking the door even under pressure.

It’s easy to set up and use. The standard unit uses Bluetooth connectivity, requiring your phone to be within about 10 feet. Once your phone is out and the app is open, the unit pairs seamlessly within seconds, providing effortless access.

The Tedee Smart Turn comes with built-in auto-unlock and auto-lock features.

Note: You will need to replace the Euro cylinder in your door at the same time. The APECS AP 3-star range of Euro cylinders is a great high-security option to pair with the Tedee Smart Turn.

Cons

  • You must change the Euro cylinder. Since the Tedee Smart Turn sits on the back of the Euro cylinder, the cylinder needs to be compatible. APECS has created a modified version of their AP 3-star kitemarked Euro cylinder for this purpose.
  • More expensive than other smart locks on the market.
  • Requires recalibration (very easy to do) when you remove the turn to charge it.
  • The Tedee Keypad is a bit bulkier compared to competitors’ versions.

Tedee Keypad:

Allows easy unlocking with a simple code (set up via the phone). You can have up to 100 user codes, with codes being 5-8 digits long. You can also double-lock the door with a single button press when you leave.

Tedee Bridge:

Enables remote use of the Tedee Smart Lock and allows code setup on the keypad from anywhere. This is ideal for rental or Airbnb properties, as you can issue access codes and unlock the door remotely with an internet connection.

I’ve personally replaced all the smart locks in my home with these units. They are far more reliable than other models I’ve used. While they are more expensive, the added strength and ease of use make them well worth it.

They are perfect for domestic use – you’ll never lock yourself out again if you have your phone or the keypad set up.

Ideal for families with children, as you can create a simple code for them to always get back in.

The Tedee Smart Lock is also designed for rental properties, offering remote code setup and virtual keys that can be issued to tenants and automatically expire when their stay ends (requires the keypad and bridge).
